Dunragit is the site of an 1861 station on both the Port Road. Closed in 1965 the signal box remains in use and the station building also remains intact. Both are now a feature of the Glasgo South Western Line terminating at Stranrear Harbour. It was just east of Dunragit station that the "Port Road" was severed in 1965. This doese make Dunragit Station rather uniques because whilst observing a train passing this point you are effectively looking at a part of the Port Road which is still open, albeait the station itself is shut.
